ProofCert

ProofCert Trust Center

Technical and operational information used to interpret a ProofCert verification result.

Verification model

ProofCert evaluates four separate forms of evidence. A document should be treated according to the complete result, not a single check in isolation.

Document integrity
The signed PDF hash and embedded digital signature are checked for changes made after signing.
Issuer identity
The signing certificate is checked against the ProofCert certificate authority and the issuer's current recognition status.
Credential status
The live ProofCert record determines whether the credential remains valid, has expired, or has been revoked.
Public timestamp
Where present, a Polygon Merkle proof shows that a credential hash was included in a publicly timestamped batch.

ProofCert root certificate

The public root certificate is the trust anchor used by ProofCert to validate organization signing certificates.

Issuer and credential status

Verified issuer
The organization has been reviewed by ProofCert and is currently permitted to sign ProofCert credentials.
Suspended issuer
The organization is not currently permitted to sign. Existing credentials must be interpreted using their live status.
Revoked credential
The issuing organization has withdrawn the credential. The signed file remains identifiable but is no longer current.
Expired credential
The expiry time recorded in the signed credential has passed.

Scope of trust

ProofCert verification is authoritative within the ProofCert credential trust framework. It evaluates document integrity, organization signing certificates, issuer standing, and live credential status against ProofCert's published controls.

Recognition shown by third-party PDF readers is governed by their own trust programs, including the Adobe Approved Trust List (AATL) and European Union Trusted List (EUTL), and may therefore differ from a live ProofCert result.

Polygon anchoring adds independently auditable timestamp evidence for a batch Merkle root. ProofCert's live issuer, revocation, and expiry checks remain the authoritative source for current credential status.

Documents submitted for public verification are processed for the check and are not retained.
